Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) is made possible in a single Biolac basin with the use of Parkson’s state-of-the-art Wave-Ox™ and Wave-Ox™ Plus controls strategies. These control strategies allow the Biofuser® aeration chains to be grouped so that air can be cycled on and off to create anoxic and aerobic zones within the Biolac basin. This allows for nitrification to occur while zones are aerated, and denitrification to occur in zones where the aeration chains are turned off. The strategy can achieve effluent total nitrogen limits of <5.0 mg/l and allows for biological phosphorous removal to occur in an independent anaerobic zone, if needed. The Wave-Ox control system utilizes dissolved oxygen monitoring to maintain the proper conditions in the basin to optimize BNR. The Wave-Ox Plus strategy goes a step further and incorporates both D.O. and ammonia monitoring for process control. Both control strategies are designed to limit excess D.O., which helps reduce energy consumption since blowers run less. Setpoints are provided in an easy-to-use format on the operator interface screen giving the operator the ability to easily adjust the process as needed. Remote access is typically provided with the control panel to allow monitoring of the system from any location.
Applications:
- Municipal wastewater treatment
- Industrial wastewater treatment
- Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR)
- Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR)
Benefits:
- Ability to achieve BNR and ENR without separate basins and associated sludge recycle
- Automatic control of air distribution to create aerobic and anoxic zones
- Easy access to setpoints allowing operators to make process adjustments as needed
- Close monitoring of D.O. levels optimizes energy usage
- Remote access available
- Can be retrofitted to existing Biolac installations
